The Art of Restraint

Restraint is often mistaken for absence. In practice it is the opposite: it is the accumulated result of many decisions, most of which are refusals. The rooms that stay with us are rarely the ones that offered the most.

There is a point in every project where the work turns from composition to subtraction. Removing a second material, a second light source, a second idea. What remains has to be right, because there is nothing left to distract from it.

This is also why restrained interiors age well. They were never dependent on a moment.
